if you are a liberal, you tend to believe that what is good for society is good for the individual. Issues like gay marriage, immigration, inclusion of all religions, more even taxation, free healthcare and gun control are seen as necessities for a better society, even if they don’t necessarily favor ME. If you are conservative, you believe that what is good for the individual is therefore good for society. Less taxes mean more money in your pocket even if it means a more expensive and exclusive healthcare system. Inclusion of religions means that yours is in jeopardy, gun control means the government wants to take away your toys, an more open immigration policies means watering down the American culture, which is already an amalgam of cultures, in favor of cultures of less value, AKA Latinos, specially Mexicans. I have yet to see bans on flights from Germany or the U.K.
Back to the question, white conservative males feel like political correctness has taken away their right to express their discomfort, they feel oppressed because leveling the play field means that those at the bottom will get a better deal and those at the top will lose some privileges. Liberals are ok with leveling the field. Conservatives are not. Donald Trump didn’t disagree with unlimited immigration. He didn’t propose better screening of flights or better intelligence. He proposed a total ban of Muslims in this country. His solution to the border with Mexico is to build a wall to keep those drug dealers and rapists (Trumps words referring to Mexican immigrants) away. That is Xenophobia by definition.
